Breaking Down DraftKings’ Hire of Las Vegas Veteran Johnny Avello

Wynn Resorts’ executive John Avello is joining DraftKings, the leading national Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) operation as it continues its foray into Nevada-style, single-team bookmaking, telling Sports Handle that the popular Las Vegas Strip bookmaker has joined their expanding operation.

Avello, who will remain in Las Vegas, the company said, is expected to be joined at DraftKings by Ed Malinowski, sports and racebook executive at Golden Entertainment. Malinoswki has resigned from that post.

West Virginia Sports Betting Rules Ignore Pro Leagues’ Intimidation Tactics

The West Virginia Lottery Commission on Wednesday approved final rules governing sports wagering, rejecting written comments from several professional sports leagues, reports Jeff Jenkins of West Virginia MetroNews. The comments on the emergency regulations, submitted on behalf of the National Basketball Association, Major League Baseball and the PGA Tour, requested among other things that the Lottery require state-licensed sportsbooks to use “official league data” for purposes of grading wagers.

PGCB Grants Hollywood, Parx Casinos PA Sports Betting Licenses

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board unanimously approved sports betting petitions for Mountainview Thoroughbred Racing (Hollywood Casino) and Greenwood Gaming (Parx Casino and South Philadelphia Turf Club) at its regular meeting Wednesday morning, paving the way for sports betting to go live in the state as early as November.

Greenwood Gaming, which owns the Parx Casino and the South Philadelphia Turf Club, is targeting November to roll out sports betting at its facilities while Mountainview representatives were less specific, and aiming for a rollout later this year.

VSiN Headed East With New Studio In Atlantic City, Rosters Former NFL Exec Mike Lombardi

Former NFL executive Michael Lombardi, the man multi-Super Bowl winning NFL head coach Bill Belichick called “one of the smartest people I’ve worked with,” is joining the Vegas Stats & Information Network (VSiN).

The Las Vegas-based, multi-media sports wagering information outlet announced Thursday Lombardi will soon spearhead revamped weekend programing from new studio facilities in the sportsbook of the Ocean Resort Casino in Atlantic City, N.J.

The new studio facilities will serve as the home for weekend morning shows featuring Lombardi and current VSiN host Jonathan Von Tobel. The programming, which will debut in the next few weeks, will kick off VSiN’s live weekend offerings at 10 a.m. ET on Saturdays and Sundays.
