Las Vegas Sands Corporation has confirmed media reports regarding the ill-health of casino mogul Sheldon Adelson, which have appeared across a number of news outlets.

The founder, chairman and chief executive officer of Las Vegas Sands Corporation was reported to be undergoing treatment as part of a battle against cancer. The organisation has since confirmed that Adelson is undergoing treatment for non-Hodgkin lymphoma

Reported by Associated Press, Adelson’s deteriorating health was initially mentioned during a court case with a Hong Kong business men earlier in the week.

In a media statement to clarify the health condition of Adelson, the Sands China’s board of directors said: “The board of directors of Sands China Ltd, has recently noted certain media reports in relation to the health condition of Mr Sheldon Gary Adelson, the chairman of the board, chief executive officer, executive director and chairman of the nomination committee of the company.

“Mr Adelson is still dealing with certain side effects from medication he is taking for the treatment of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. These side effects have restricted his availability to travel or keep regular office hours.

“They have not, however, prevented him from fulfilling his duties as chairman of the board, chief executive officer, executive director and chairman of the nomination committee of the company. The company anticipates that Mr Adelson will return to his regular schedule at the completion of his treatment.”

In a health overview issued by the NHS, the health service emphasised that the treatment of non-Hodgkin lymphoma can easily be treated. With it added that treatment and outlook “varies greatly, depending on the exact type, grade and extent of the lymphoma, and the person’s age.

“Low-grade tumours don’t necessarily require immediate medical treatment, but are harder to completely cure.

“High-grade lymphomas need to be treated straight away, but tend to respond much better to treatment and can often be cured.”
