National Basketball Association (NBA) legend Steph Curry is reported to be working alongside Rakuten Sports to develop original programming across Rakuten’s over-the-top (OTT) platform.

Having been named as a brand ambassador for Rakuten Sports earlier in the year, Curry is said to be spearheading the new project, which will form the foundations of a new stream of direct-to-consumer (DTC) content for the OTT platform.

The partnership between Curry and Rakuten is hoped to boost the streaming platform’s presence across the US, where the Golden State Warrior’s point guard already features in the television commercials.

Rakuten, which is also the Golden State Warriors’ official jersey-badge sponsor, already carries Japanese distribution rights to the NBA League Pass, via another of its OTT channels, Rakuten TV.

Rakuten will also present two NBA pre-season games in Japan later this year, which will include a feature match between the Houston Rockets and 2019 champions, the Toronto Raptors.
