Just in time for the launch of the 2020 PLAYERS Championship, DFS and sportsbook operator DraftKings has officially announced the debut of its Tiers product for the first time ever in daily fantasy golf.

The new game variant has the same scoring system as DraftKings’ classic product but differs in draft style. Tiers will separate players into five different groups based on rating and golf-style while also eliminating restrictions for a ‘fun and more casual’ experience.

Building on this, Tiers contests will see users create a lineup by selecting players assigned from these specific Tier, with valid lineups including one player from each separate group.

Adam Barrick, DraftKings senior director of strategic partnerships, stated: “Optimizing the gaming experience for the DFS golf fan has always been the focal point of our PGA TOUR partnership and introducing our Tiers variant for the PLAYERS is reflective of the customer-centric mindset we share with the TOUR.

“We’re excited to see how golf fans engage with the PLAYERS Tiers game as we continually look to innovate and create best in class products with our league partners.”

Tiers will look to build on the 26 million-plus daily fantasy golf entries that DraftKings saw in 2019, with the introduction of the new game variant for this week’s PLAYERS Championship marking the beginning of a platform-wide rollout for all future DraftKings daily fantasy golf contests.

Norb Gambuzza, Senior Vice President Media & Gaming at the PGA TOUR, added: “We have seen significant growth in fan engagement in daily fantasy since announcing our partnership with DraftKings last year. We are excited to see the new Tiers game as we continue to grow our partnership with DraftKings.”

The new contest goes live today, March 12, and is set to run in conjunction with the 2020 PLAYERS Championship, concluding on March 15.
