The Buenos Aires City racecourse Hipódromo de Palermo has officially entered the local online gambling market after launching on March 19 its betfun platform, with the authorization of the gambling regulator Lotería de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires (LOTBA).

According to an official statement, the Palermo racecourse will offer “the latest technology” in “hundreds of slot games”.

It noted: “Betfun invites you to live a personalized experience with a high level of security, transparency, an easy registration and accessibility from any mobile device.”

Currently, the platform offers gaming options such as Instant Roulette, Chilli Heat, First Person Roulette, Asgard, 9 Masks of Fire and Arena of Gold, including high prizes and progressive jackpots.

In mid-2020, the racecourse submitted its proposal to operate online to LOTBA, as part of the financial recovery plan that the authorities had put in place after more than five months of no activity due to COVID-19.

In a September 2020 interview with SBC Noticias, the manager of the Hipódromo de Palermo, Fernando Facal, said that betfun is “a key tool not only to reactivate the racecourse, but also to give fans better security and agility to be able to play from their homes, under the guidelines of the Responsible Gaming program. In addition, it would also tackle illegal and excessive gambling”.

The Argentinian turf industry currently covers 70,000 direct and indirect jobs, while the Hipódromo de Palermo employs 2,000 people directly and over 20,000 people depend on it indirectly.
