In the midst of the sports betting boom in Latin America, one of the companies that has registered the highest growth in the sector is Betcris. Therefore, the company could not miss SBC Summit Latinoamérica to analyze the characteristics of the industry in the region.
Betcris CEO, JD Duarte, remotely provided a keynote in which he highlighted the peculiarities of the Latin player and compared the game to football “the king of sports” in Latin America.
“Although we did not invent football, it was here where we added flavor, and I like to think that it is the same with the gaming industry: we did not invent it ourselves, but it is in Latin America where we put the most emotion,” he said.
“Latin America is made great by its people,” he added, explaining that it is a young region, whose average age is 31 years, and that the adoption of technology and smartphones with the internet is increasing, as in the whole world.
“Those of us who are gathered here have a great responsibility since we have the opportunity to lay the foundations of our region and work to improve the conditions that allow a formal and sustainable development of our industry in Latin America,” he stressed.
“After years at the front of Betcris, I have set a mission to be a positive agent of positive change through the creation of opportunities for the people of Latin America,” said the executive, adding that he hopes it will be that of the entire industry, to be able to “generate opportunities for entertainment, work, and personal fulfillment, to generate resources for social works with institutions, regulators and governments”. In that sense, he highlighted SBC for “dedicating itself to creating opportunities”.
In addition, he commented: “When asking non-Latino friends for words that come to mind about Latin America, the most predominant was ‘passion’. Others like ‘warmth’, ‘kindness’, ‘life’ and ‘opportunity’ also came out.”
“Although we are a region with many similarities, we are not a single market,” said Duarte, as he analyzed: “A word that often jumps out is ‘complexity’, but we have a lot in common and one of those things is, definitely, the passion that we put into everything we do and that intense search for strong emotions”.
“No matter the pace, we Latinos hit the track. We dance everything and we play everything: lottery, slots, cards, sports betting. The game doesn’t matter, we Latinos get on the track,” he explained.
“Latin America is in the midst of development in the gaming industry, driven in large part by technological digitization,” said Duarte, assuring that it is not only necessary to be “main actors in history”, but rather that “you have to be the ones who we help to write it”.
SBC Summit Latin America brought together important delegates from regulators, suppliers, and operators in the region, as well as experts in the field at the JW Marriott Marquis Miami.
