IGT’s President of Sports Betting, Joe Asher, has advised those that are looking to start or forge a career in the betting industry to “pick up a little bit from everybody” as there is a lot of opportunity in the market.
Speaking at the 2021 SBC Summit North America conference and expo at the Meadowlands Exposition Center in New Jersey, Asher stated that while the betting industry isn’t for everyone, it can be “a great way to spend a career”.
Asher commented: “Starting out, I think it’s about working hard, trying to do the right thing, paying attention to detail, and making sure you take the opportunity to learn from people, both the people you are working with or the people in your company, but also people who work in other companies that you come in touch with.
“That’s what I’ve done and you pick up a little bit from everybody. Not everything is the way that you want to do it perhaps, but you learn an awful lot along the way and ultimately you decide what you want to do.
“I think there’s a lot of opportunity in this industry going forward so I was probably born a generation too soon.”
Asher also reflected on the SBC Summit North America event, the panel session which he participated in, and his Hall of Fame induction, which he called “very humbling” while also adding that it is “a great honor” to receive such recognition alongside other greats in the sports betting industry.
